Filus Reserva Malbec
100% Malbec, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
Appellation: Grapes come from three vineyards in different regions: La Consulta, Vista Flores and Gualtallary. Vineyards are between 20 and 60 years old. High density of 5500 plants/ha. Altitude from 1100 to 1400 masl (from 3600 to 4600 ft).
Yield: 7-8 tn/ha (3.1 tn/ac).
Harvest: Around the middle of April. Clusters were selected in the estate. Double grape selection in the sorting table of the winery.
Maceration: Between 3 and 5 days at 8° C / 46°F
Alcoholic Fermentation: It was carried out with the addition of indigenous yeasts during 15 days in stainless steel tanks at 25º-28ºC / 77º-82ºF. Afterwards, post malolactic fermentation took place for 10 days, which was followed by natural malolactic fermentation.
Aging: 100% of wine was aged in French oak barrels during 12 months and between 4 and 6 months in bottle.
Limited Production: 45,000 bottles
Winemaker: Mario Malatto.
Tasting Notes: It displays a deep ruby red color with purplish hues. In the nose, it is intense with aromas of raspberry, plum and licorice. The mouth is filled with noticeable and sweet tannins as well as a spicy burning sensation on the sides of the mouth. The aftertaste displays flavors of blackcurrant , dark chocolate and coffee. Its oak ageing enhances and increases its complexity. It displays a long and elegant finish.
